Road and Trail Improvements Planned at Miller’s Landing
From the start, Miller’s Landing has been committed to creating a development that meshes with the Town of Castle Rock’s master plan, enhances the community and provides quality local jobs to town residents. One of those commitments is to improve traffic flow and pedestrian and bicycle connectivity between downtown and Philip S. Miller Park.
We will be starting projects in the near future to widen and improve the alignment on two roads that serve Miller’s Landing and the adjacent area. The public improvement projects are part of our town-approved master plan.
The projects include widening West Plum Creek Parkway, adding a traffic roundabout to the road and realigning Prairie Hawk Drive. The cost to complete these two projects is approximately $9.4 million. The projects will be paid for with tax revenue generated by Miller’s Landing. No town funds are being used.
Once the improvements are complete the roads will be able to handle the vehicles that will travel into and out of Miller’s Landing. These improvements will not only serve Miller’s Landing, however. The community will benefit as well. With the improvements, the roads will be better equipped to handle the increasing amount of traffic that travels on them already. Traffic on the roads will only increase as Castle Rock grows in the coming years. However, the office space and adjacent retail and residential at Miller’s Landing is expected to reduce the number of people commuting long distances, which will help reduce traffic growth.
In addition, plans call for the construction of a bicycle and pedestrian trail in the northwest part of the development. The 2,936-foot trail will connect the popular Philip S. Miller park with the Plum Creek regional trail, allowing walkers and cyclists to travel from the park to downtown on one continuous trail. Cost to construct the concrete trail is approximately $562,000.
Miller’s Landing is also spending more than $2 million to stabilize and improve the channel of an adjacent waterway.
Like the road improvements, trail and waterway construction costs will be paid by tax revenue generated at Miller’s Landing.
We’re excited about the upcoming road and trail projects. The new road designs and bike/walking path will provide easy access to Miller’s Landing. They benefit the town as well by making much-needed improvements to the public infrastructure, all without using any Town of Castle Rock funds.
