Developing Tomorrow’s Skilled Workforce
As technology grows ever more important, finding well-trained, qualified employees is expected to remain a challenge. It’s an important consideration for those interested in starting a business in Colorado. A commitment to working with the local community to develop a trained workforce is just one reason you should make Miller’s Landing in Castle Rock your top choice for new business space.
Miller’s Landing is a new 65-acre mixed-use commercial development that combines high-tech businesses with retail, restaurant, medical, hospitality and open space in a vibrant, town center setting.
Miller’s Landing is working closely with the Arapahoe Community College’s (ACC) Sturm Collaboration Campus in Castle Rock to develop strategies to meet the area’s workforce needs. The collaboration will play a vital role to maintain the region’s reputation as a growing hub for high-tech businesses and one of the best places to build a business in the nation.
The innovative campus is a joint venture between ACC, Colorado State University, the Town of Castle Rock, the Douglas County School District and the Castle Rock Economic Development Council. The campus, recognized regionally and nationally for its innovative programs, design and partnerships, won the Colorado Economic Development Partnership of the Year Award in 2018.
A Focus on In-Demand Careers
Sturm Collaboration Campus offers high-quality, nimble and affordable post-secondary education options for the community with programs that meet local workforce needs.
It offers three initial career and academic pathways identified in the Colorado Talent Pipeline Report as the region’s most in-demand jobs. These include information technology and programming, health and wellness, and business and entrepreneurship. The pathways can change and evolve as industry needs change in the future.
Students align their educational pathways with the needs of local businesses. The campus offers opportunities to get involved in work-based learning opportunities via internships and apprenticeships along with full- and part-time jobs.
In addition to the degree options offered by Arapahoe Community College, Colorado State University (CSU) offers two bachelor’s degree programs at the campus. A business degree with an accounting concentration is offered through CSU’s main Fort Collins campus, while a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems with a cybersecurity concentration is offered by CSU Pueblo. The CSU degree programs offered at the campus have lower tuition rates than the programs offered at the home campuses.
The campus features state-of-the-art technology including a gamification environment in the cyber lab with a dedicated server room and a virtual dissection table in the biology and health labs. For distance learning the campus uses the real-time distance learning platform mashme.io.
In addition, the campus features an industry pitch room equipped with communications technology to allow participants to join in on meetings remotely from locations across the globe.
Positioned for Growth in the Future
ACC has partnered with the Sturm Family Foundation, which will provide up to $10 million for campus operations and staffing and technology upgrades. The money will also be used to fund scholarships, a program innovation fund and a Phase 2 investment for construction of an additional building on campus if needed in the future.
Working to Ensure Your Success
Miller’s Landing believes its partnership with the campus to enhance education options helps ensure the long-term success of the community.
